The Material Handler is responsible for handling, moving, loading and unloading materials by hand and using a variety of material handling equipment. Employees will be responsible for receiving, kitting, delivering, and storing all materials in a timely fashion while maintaining a superior quality. Material damage must be minimized through correct loading and packaging methods.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Load, unload and move products and materials throughout the yards.
- Operate winches and other loading devices to load and unload materials onto and off trucks.
- Operate industrial trucks, loaders and other equipment to transport materials to and from transportation vehicles and store and retrieve materials in yard.
- Coordinate the timely flow of material between the Yard and Production areas ensuring materials are presented in the correct packaging with necessary documentation
- Provide information on material shortages to Purchasers in a timely manner.
- Receive all incoming inventory stock – identify it, tag it, transfer to designated area in line with the Kanban processes.
- Keep the work area clean and organized. Remove all rubbish & debris on a regular basis.
- Ensure all inventory has the proper documentation and packaging.
- Load containers and trucks with customer orders as directed by your supervisor and unload.
- Complete any special projects as required. May be assigned to other areas of Operations, based on business or customer requirements.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent along with at least one year experience in a similar position is required. The employee must obtain their forklift license through an outside certification process and this licence must be valid.
- Strong multitasking and communication skills
- Experience with Inventory Control systems
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing advantageous.
- Ability to work as a team and independently.
